Beyond the IoT hype, Adelaide’s own Myriota CEO Alex chats with Rooster Radio. Good for those looking to understand a little more of the commercial IoT space and some of the players in the game. IoT is described as at the peak of the hype curve at the moment with a lot of players coming into the market. Driverless vehicles also get a mention as one with a lot of interest but still waiting for the tipping point.
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon has released his annual letter to Amazon shareholders and it is a fine view of what it means to be young at heart (as a company) and customer focused. Much is held in believing that when you step into ‘day 2’ your learning mindset and your edge will wain, a key indicator that death is around the corner.
Below is the letter in full, well worth the read.
2016 Letter to Shareholders
April 12, 2017
“Jeff, what does Day 2 look like?”
That’s a question I just got at our most recent all-hands meeting. I’ve been reminding people that it’s Day 1 for a couple of decades. I work in an Amazon building named Day 1, and when I moved buildings, I took the name with me. I spend time thinking about this topic.
“Day 2 is stasis. Followed by irrelevance. Followed by excruciating, painful decline. Followed by death. And that is why it is always Day 1.”
Programming the WaterMeBird. Quick time lapse of me using the custom programming jig then testing it against a finished kit. Sweet twittering and time lapse goodness.
Eagle CAD is a good program with many quirks. Building LED arrays I found a need to place MANY components accurately on my PCB.
Your opinion please! – Or pass to an appropriate friend/organisation:
I have been looking at creating a ‘MakerSpace’ in Adelaide, a place where you can access hardware tools and expertise to make physical things. From woodwork to electronics or even products. It comes from the idea that you may want to make something but usually you need a lot of supporting tools, or even don’t have the space, why use a shared facility! If this is something you are interested in, please fill in the survey to register interest and to shape the space!
Please forward to anyone you think is keen. I will be going hard on this idea for 2 months and then killing it if there is not enough interest in Adelaide. Thank you all!
- Have you ever wanted to make something interactive but didn’t know where to begin?
- Ever wanted to try your hand at electronics?
- Do you live in Adelaide?
Well my friend! I will be helping other people just like yourself get their beautiful ideas they have, out of their head and into reality. To start I’ll be teaching an Intro to Electronics. But to help you the best I can, let me know what you are after by answering 7 quick questions. Read More
Released, just now in the shop. I present the result of many hours of tinkering and designing.
All designed and made in South Australia I have stepped this clock up a couple notches. It now sports the ability to change colour as well as an engraved back. The letters are super clear and the face is perfect. The pictures can do the talking =)
Walking though Jaycar yesterday I happened to spot something shiny in the corner of my eye. Luckily not too shiny, it was a laser. I have a goal of building a laser operated Asteroids game. Inspired from this: http://jv4779.blogspot.ca/2013/03/laser-projector-playing-mame-vector.html
So, first things first, how can we control a laser with a computer…
Today I nocked up a quick how-to on getting the Spark Core to connect to an RGB strip. I have seen lots of great projects using the NeoPixel strip but thought it would be even better to see Web controlled ones! Let me know what projects you would think would be worthy!!!
